Max is assigned to become a drunken, broken agent in the hopes KAOS will try to recruit him. He is forced to drive away both Fang and 99 to make the plot work. First, Max goes to an underworld casino and attempts to lose all his money, so of course he wins every game he plays. He then gets drunk in a seedy bar, sends away Fang and 99 and hits the Chief with a bottle, convincing KAOS to try and recruit him. His first assignment, though, is to kill 99.
