Six CONTROL agents are killed and the common denominator is that they all played on the CONTROL training school's baseball team. The only surviving members are Max, the Chief, and Adrian Listenger, a spy school failure. They join up with Ace Weems, an insurance investigator who offers to help them track down Listenger. When Listenger turns up dead, Max and the Chief suspect each other.

The late Pat Paulsen is wonderful as Ace Weems.

The title is a takeoff on the movie, "The List of Adrian Messenger."
