SOME REMARKS ABOUT THE LETTERS
All of the Reverend's
letters were hand written and all of the responses to them were typed.
I'd like to take this time to thank my wife Deborah for the wonderful job
of translating Dr. Metcalf's handwriting which in appearance is quite expressive,
with long and elaborate strokes of the pen. Some of his written questions
end in periods, not question marks and would impulsively capitalize at
random.
Dr. Metcalf's handwriting
reveals his excitable spirit when confronted with the anticipation of discovery
and assisting the advancement of man's
awareness of the universe around him.
All of the style of
Dr. Metcalf's writing had been copied as best as possible in transcribing
his words through the use of a keyboard. Any doubts, on Deborah's
or my part, about the spelling or terminology used by Dr. Metcalf are noted
in parentheses and bolded in red.
I hope that you find
this wonderful insight into the life spirit and emotion of this enthusiastic
amateur astronomer as enlightening as I have.
